My name is Nicholas von Sydow and I am a second year hear on international business management and also the 2018/19 student union chairman.
Before coming to the RAU, I spent seven years at boarding school and when it came around to deciding which university’s I would like to apply too I only had once choice and that was here. I chose to come straight from school as I knew this was definitely the university for me because of all the great social and sporting events that I had heard happen here.
Over the last year I have had the best university experience as I made sure to get involved with as much as possible, playing rugby against university’s all over the country and shooting when in season taking part in this allowed me to meet so many more people which of course only makes my Uni experience better. Then at the early stages of the summer term I saw the opportunity to run for the student union chairman and it didn’t take me long to get a campaign together and run for it. I saw the opportunity to make a difference whether it be in social events or academic board meetings.
The Student union here at the RAU is there to facilitate everything outside of lectures from sports and societies to board games and brewers and the more typical ones like shooting, rugby and polo. As a union we hold three major events every year, fresher’s ball, Christmas ball and may ball these have always been very successful and are a great way to bring everyone together at the university. The SU also organise much smaller events every day such as film nights or Friday night tithe nights. As a university being located right in the Cotswolds means we have some of the best pubs in the country a short car journey away however if pubs aren’t for you we have Reva nightclub located in the middle of town. For me with all this going on all the time it’s such an easy to place to make great friends for life.
As a university another thing that is taken very seriously is our RAG work this year we are supporting three charities…………. in order the support these three charities we take a full week off in February and have activities on every day ranging from a rally to another university or pulling a tractor from the town centre to campus. These are always very successful, and we are always actively looking to help with our local community and support local charities.Nick Von Sydow
