‘Hello. I’m Sarah Tennant-Bell and students are at the heart of everything I do.
I lead, manage and motivate a team of Elected Officers, alongside working with the Student Council and Trustees, to ensure good services are provided to all students.
I essentially create a bridge between the students and the University. The role is diverse and no two days the same - acting as a mentor, a problem solver, an events manager and even (on occasion) resident DJ!
I have oversight of a range of functions for our members including organising social activities, providing support on a range of academic and welfare issues, representing students both individually and collectively; and engaging and fostering a sense of community.’Sarah Tennant-Bell
The SU Accountant manages the SU finances and maintains a comprehensive understanding of the financial position of the SU and all its activities, including advising the SU team, board of directors, members, club/society captains and other stakeholders on financial procedures and strategy. The role is to ensure the Company’s financial security and compliance with relevant legislation.

‘Hi there, I’m Mel, the SU Accountant, and Company Secretary. I’ve been working for the SU for just over two years, and I absolutely love it! It’s my job to make sure that accurate records are kept, and to help the SU and all their clubs and societies in planning their activities from a financial perspective, setting budgets and the like. The SU is mainly grant-funded, so I’m also responsible for ensuring that we report regularly to the RAU, and that we stay compliant with the rules set out by the Charities Commission, Companies House, HMRC and so on. Working in a small team like the SU is incredibly rewarding, and I get a huge amount of enjoyment from helping students achieve their plans throughout each year. If you ever need any help, or have any questions, do feel free to pop into the office and say hello!’Melanie Kayani
The SU Administrator provides day to day support and administrative assistance to the General Manager, Accountant and SU Officers.
‘Hello. I’m Aimee Clappison, I recently graduated from the RAU after studying BSc Agriculture. I am pleased to say I couldn’t keep myself away from Ciren and I now work for the Students’ Union as the RAUSU Administrator and am generally your first point of contact within the office.
Day to day I help and assist the SU Officers with whatever they need from helping organise social events to RAG charity events which are enjoyed by all. Coming from the depths of Yorkshire, Ciren is the perfect home from home for everyone and I’m so happy to be part of the RAU family for the foreseeable future.’Aimee Clappison
